EUROPE FOR CITIZENS – Democratic engagement and civic participation - Civil society projects: ASK THE LOCALS!

Ask the Locals! is a civic project aiming at utilizing small community structure and dynamics for enhancing accessibility and effectiveness of allocation of EU resources. It will be conducted by 6 civil society organizations, involving 600 participants and volunteers from 4 EU member states & 2 EU candidate states with severe problems with corruption and equal transparency scores: Greece, Italy, Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia, F.Y.Ro.Macedonia (Transparency International, 2014).

The project aims at creating a series of useful tools, addressed to NEET (NEET is understood as: young unemployed people, the youth outsider the educational system, the youth coming from underprivileged families or areas, those being unemployed due to some negative Job seeking experience), with the purpose of providing them a series of competencies that can enable these groups to overcome the obstacles that bind them to a condition of inactivity.

"Coding for Young People" addresses the issue of current underdevelopment of ICT skills among young people, especially girls who are underrepresented in STEM careers. As the European Union adopted the Europe 2020 strategic framework, it became clear that competitiveness and innovation is directly linked to the use of information and communication technologies (ICT). There is a consensus about the crucial importance of e-skills – their shortages, mismatches and digital divide affect negatively EU growth, innovation, competitiveness and social cohesion.

AGRO - Sustainable Agricultural Entrepreneurship for Young Workers in Africa and Europe

The AGRO project is aiming to promote the cooperation between Europe and Africa in the field of youth and explore the potential of youth work in order to increase the employability of the young people in the field of agriculture which represents a great potential for the economies of the Partner Countries. In order to promote this objective, AGRO is going to organise 1 transnational seminar (Modica – IT), 2 capacity building training courses (Cameroon and Ghana) and 1 e-learning course in order to train the youth workers from the Partner Countries in the organisation of non- formal and informal learning activities for the development of the skills of young people related to the exploitation of the community assets and the development of agricultural enterprises.
